Rock City Gardens is the only nursery our family uses for landscaping, great plants and terrific gardening advice. The Lowes (Tom and Rhonda owners) have become active in the community affairs and the nursery sponsors many annual benefits and supports many other nonprofit entities. Stop by, tell Rhonda Hi! Yannick Joseph Martin Vero Beach Celebrity Chef Remembered, Funeral and Reception September 23, 2013
Funeral Service at Our Savior Lutheran Church
Reception held at the Tides Restaurant hosted by Chef Leanne Kelleher owner and long time friend of Chef Yannick.
The Treasure Coast favorite Celebrity Chef is Gone!
Chef Yannick Martin Passed Away September 16, 2013 on his Birthday, he was 78.
The funeral service was held at Our Savior Lutheran Church Monday September 23, 2013. The Church was filled with relatives, friends, a vacant seat was hard to find. As funeral services go this was one of the best I can remember. Yannick's daughter Kim and Valerie's sister Nickie delivered heart felt words of inspiration in celebration of Chef Yannick's life. A bagpiper marched in front of the family as they entered and departed the church sanctuary. No dry eyes here.
Martin's name recognition is backed by impressive credentials, reflected by both his schooling at Brittany's Rennes St. Malo and the breadth and geography of his past employment. As a young man fresh out of the army, he took a job with the Galway Hotel in Ireland, ending as maitre d'. He boarded a ship for San Diego in 1959 and from there he traveled east to a flourishing career in Boston. Working his way up from waiter to second chef at Les Truilleries, then the most acclaimed French restaurant in the city, he moved on to work at the Brennan's Restaurant, one of New Orleans' oldest dining establishments. He left as captain, returning north as chef saucier at the Sheraton Boston Hotel. In 1982,
Opportunity called him to the states, this time to Florida's Treasure Coast. He served as executive chef at Sandpiper Bay (now Club Med) in Port St. Lucie, Ocean Village Fort Pierce, The Holiday Inn in Ft, Pierce and the Forty-One Restaurant in Vero Beach. He then moved to the faltering TipTop Restaurant, renamed it Chez Yannick to take advantage of Yannick's loyal following. When a plan to take over the revived restaurant fell through, he left Chez Yannick and opened Cafe du Soir.
Chef Yannick, Vero Beach Thanks you for all those wonderful years!

Caprino's Italian Restaurant when it was located on A1A South on the East side where Charlie Brown's
was once located.
The Red Tail Hawk later known as P.V. Martin's was located half way between Vero Beach and Fort Pierce on the Ocean. When it first opened it was excellent. I was there when it opened some time around 1973. There was a piano bar in the Crow's Nest at the top of the building overlooking the ocean.
Once upon a time a restaurant & lounge, first called "Red Tailed Hawk", later " PV Martin's was located on the ocean just across from Ocean Resorts Campground. They had a wonderful Seafood Buffet that many residents and their families enjoyed. C. J. & Carol Neuhoff tell how many years ago they took his brother & his wife to the restaurant. The wife was a big fan of Jane Pauley and lo and behold Jane and her husband Garry Trudeau were dining at the time at the restaurant. It was quite exciting. Residents of O.R. have had many an interesting night there, and the facility is sadly missed.
Management at Ocean Resorts discovered that our boardwalk had inadvertently been built partly on lands belonging to the owners of PV Martins restaurant (the JOFU Corporation); Ocean Resorts purchased the land it had encroached upon from JOFU Corporation. This is evidenced by Warranty Deed February 5, 1997.
However, one day employees showed up for work and were greeted by locked doors and a sign that read "Restaurant Sold". Ginn Developers bought it. The building was partially destroyed by the 2004 Twin Hurricanes and then in 2005 it was leveled. Eventually the land was purchased by Barnes Blvd. Warehouses Storage, Inc. Our neighbors, Ocean Harbor North has approached O.R. to join them in purchasing this land, but a committee appointed by the O.R. BOD decided against any further negotiations at this time.
